Saturday, March 23, 1940, was an important day for the Muslims of the Indian subcontinent when the then Chief Minister of Bengal, Maulvi Fazlullah, presented a resolution for a separate country for Muslims at the annual meeting of the All India Muslim League in Manto Park, Lahore. This is called the Lahore Resolution.

23rd March Parade Live from Islamabad for celebrating Pakistan Day with national zeal and patriotic spirit on Friday. Islamabad Traffic Police have released a special traffic plan for the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi with regard to the Pakistan Day parade. Due to the scheduled OIC Foreign Ministers Conference in Islamabad, the government has declared a three-day public holiday in the federal capital.
City Traffic Police has announced a comprehensive traffic plan to facilitate motorists of twin cities on the eve of full dress rehearsal 21st March and 23rd March Parade. According to the traffic plan entry of heavy traffic will not be allowed in Islamabad on 21st and 23rd March from 12 am to 2 pm. The ITP Radio will also keep the citizens informed about moment to moment traffic situation. Participating troops include foot columns of Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy, PAF, Frontier Corps, Northern Light Infantry, Special Service Group from three Services and Camel Band. Formations of fighter jets, including indigenously built JF-17 Thunder, has demonstrated aerobatic maneuvers. Besides, floats reflecting cultural diversity of the country will also participated.
All government institutions in Islamabad will remain closed on March 22 and 24, while March 23 will be a public holiday across the country. Pakistan Day (Urdu: یوم پاکستان, lit. Youm-e-Pakistan) or Pakistan Resolution Day, also Republic Day, is a national holiday in Pakistan to commemorate the Lahore Resolution of 1940 and the adoption of the first constitution of Pakistan during the transition of the Dominion of Pakistan to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on 23 March 1940 making Pakistan the world’s first Islamic republic. Republic Day parade by the armed forces is a common celebration for the event.
The day is celebrated in the memory to commemorate the event when the Muslim League drafted the political resolution at the Minar-e-Pakistan (lit. Pakistan Tower) that called for establishing the independent federation of four provinces located in north-western region of British India on 23 March 1940.
Reaching the national concession on 23 March 1956 to promulgate the first set of the Constitution of Pakistan, it marked the successful constitutional transition of Pakistan from the dominion to Islamic Republic— the world’s first Islamic republic. Since then, the day is celebrated annually at the national level as a public holiday and the joint inter-services commonly holds a military parade for the celebration of the event.
